Our parent company is Arnold Clark Automobiles - formed by the owner over 50 years ago and now the largest private motor group in Europe. Based in Glasgow, the Group now operates from 165 sites in the UK, employing 8,500 people and selling over 200,000 cars per year. Yet with a turnover exceeding £2 billion and a balance sheet strength that positions the organisation amongst the UK's very largest private companies, this is a family business that has every intention of remaining so. The continuous pattern of growth has been achieved carefully and organically, funded by a total reinvestment strategy that has enabled the business to remain free of any secured lending. The shareholding of the Group is held entirely by Sir Arnold Clark and his family, with 35% of the share capital being held in a family trust. This share structure is designed to ensure the Group remains a privately owned. This strong and stable parentage has also provided a sound based to allow the leasing division - ACVM - to develop into one of the leading players in the UK. Within that business, the Activa brand was established at the turn of the millennium year to enable a stronger southern presence and it was fortuitous that a readymade team of specialists became available to enable this, following the consolidation of their previous employer within the industry. That team remains intact today and having worked together for over 20 years offer a wealth of experience that is almost unmatched in the industry.
