A Guide to Fair Wear and Tear
The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association has updated its Fair Wear and Tear guideline for businesses and customers. The guide lists out expectations for vehicle and accessory condition, and what could be expected under the umbrella term of ‘wear and tear’ for cars and vans. it has been updated to reflect new vehicle conditions, giving a guide to all parties of what defects can be expected with general vehicle use, and what would be classified as mistreatment. The new additions were made to reflect newer vehicle standards and technologies, and serve as a way to settle any disputes between parties.
The updated guide contains:
- Keys: All keys supplied with the vehicle must be returned and in working order upon return
- EV/PHEV charging cables: Applicable vehicles must be returned in a damage-free condition
- Panel condition: No cracking or shape deviation is acceptable, but small dents under 10mm in diameter are considered fear wear and tear
- Wraps, emblems, and liveries: Wraps, emblems, or liveries must be removable without causing damage to the vehicle
- Uneven tyre wear: If correctly maintained, tyres should wear evenly. Uneven tyre wear is considered mistreatment of the vehicle If you have any questions in relation to a rental or lease agreement with Activa, get in touch with a member of our team today, who will be happy to answer any questions!
