The Benefits of Telematics

Telematics are a great way to get real-time data on your fleet operations, with a multitude of other benefits. At Activa, many of our agreements include telematics software, so we’ve listed a few benefits to help you decide if they might work for you:

Fleet Efficiency

Real time tracking can show exactly where your vehicles are at any time, which can help you plan routes and dispatch the closest vehicle to the job. You can also optimise routes to improve efficiency and productivity, and reduce downtime.

Fuel Savings

You’ll be able to monitor the fuel consumption of your drivers, to identify which vehicles/drivers are using excessive amounts of fuel. It will also show you which vehicles are idling for an extended period, allowing you to check in with your driver and see if everything is okay.

Some telematics services will also give you feedback on the way your vehicles is being driven. It encourages smoother acceleration and braking, which lowers fuel use, emissions, and can reduce wear and tear on your vehicle too.

Predictive Maintenance

Telematics software can show you your mileage and vehicle history, allowing you to plan for scheduled downtime further in advance, meaning you’re always prepared for the road ahead. It can also share engine diagnostics such as low oil or overheating, letting you catch larger issues earlier, which will extend the vehicle’s lifespan. On EVs, it will also monitor battery health, charge levels, and charging efficiency, helping you optimise routes, reduce charging time, and prevent unexpected power loss.

Driver Behaviour

If you managed a shop or restaurant, you wouldn’t allow your staff to be dangerous or inefficient in front of customers – and fleet management is no different. Telematics can alert you to harsh braking or acceleration, speeding, or other bad driving habits. The data can then be used to reward safe drivers, as well as setting a benchmark to support underperforming drivers.

Enhanced Safety

You’ll be able to easily track your drivers’ tachograph and driving hours, helping you stick to DVSA standards. GPS data will also be shared if your vehicle is stolen or is involved in an incident.

Fleet Data

You’ll have a wealth of information available on your fleet usage, which will allow you to analyse trends in performance, cost, and efficiency – which will help you make informed decisions regarding your fleet.
