Fleets told to prepare as Ultra Low Emission Zones expand

London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is expanding from October 25, encompassing an area 18 times larger bounded by the North Circular and South Circular roads. Fleets have been warned to prepare with this coming expansion to avoid paying congestion fees and fines.

It’s currently estimated that around 40,000 vans and trucks currently entering London do not meet the required Euro 6 emissions standard and will be liable with the coming expansion.

Currently the daily charges run from midnight to midnight and the charge for a truck that does not meet the Euro 6 regulations will cost £100 with penalty charges starting from £500 on top of the Congestion Charge or Low Emission Zone charges already paid.

As a result of the pandemic the demand for LCVs and HGVs has increased massively and this trend could well continue into 2022. For a fleet running a large number of trucks and vans these costs and penalties can add up quickly so planning for the expansion will be crucial for fleets to avoid large financial penalties.
